ホテル トパーズ（Hotel Topaz） ★★★

The hotel is in a superb position overlooking the town of Kandy.. In almost all directions, the view is of hills. Most rooms have good views of this amazing environment. The food and facilities are very good, with an excellent breakfast offering Asian and Western choices

The bedrooms were clean and the bed was comfortable. The hotels top floor for breakfast has a great view on a clear day.

The hotel was slightly dated. Also the staff were very polite, but sometimes to the extreme. It felt like you were bombarded with questions at points.

Firstly there’s a flight of stairs up to the reception, just take note if you are not able bodied, I’m not sure if there is another entrance you can use which would be easier. The staff at check in were very friendly and welcoming, bar staff bringing a cool drink full of smiles. Large reception area and plenty of comfortable seats, the bar and a set up for live music, and great views. All was spotlessly clean. Now onto the room - I stayed in room #211, it is a good size, lovely and spacious, not cluttered and with calming colours, good lighting options and tastefully decorated. It has everything you need… BUT the air con unit is badly positioned facing the bed, it has to be off to sleep as even on the lowest setting it blasts in your face, but not a deal breaker.

For a hotel of this price point sadly the bathroom lets it all down. Black mould and signs of damp in a few areas inside the shower cubicle, and black grouting so quite obviously not clean. I have stayed in places in Sri Lanka at half the price with a much better and cleaner washroom. Staff for room service cannot speak much English, and that’s ok, I don’t speak Sinhala but then mistakes are made when ordering despite pointing on the menu to the items you’d like… they were apologetic but it meant that from the first call I made before 8pm to place an order, it took until 9.30pm before I was finally eating what I wanted… maybe have numbers next to the items would avoid this happening - just a suggestion. The corridors are noisy at night and early morning, not the hotels fault just luck of the draw if you are near other guests who decide to stand and chat outside their rooms at 6.15am with no consideration for anybody else.

Nice hotel with great views. Swimming pool was nice when not crowded. Good breakfast.

While junior staff like luggage boy, cleaners and pool guy were friendly, the reception staff were a bit cold. No flexibility when asked for a late checkout (and we had stayed three nights and arrived a 6pm ). It's not central.but no problems using Pick-Me.

Abend- und Frühstücksbufett lieblos. Schlechter Kaffee. Wenig Obst.

Das Essen war super. Die Zimmer waren sehr sauber und das Personal freundlich.

Das Hotel hat einige Sachen für uns organisieren wollen (Fahrt nach Trincomalee usw.) Die Preise hierfür waren deutlich über dem, was man in der Stadt angeboten bekommt.

Offensichtlich eher ein Hotel für Reisegruppen, dementsprechend laut und voll im Speiseraum; teurer hoteleigener Transfer ins Stadtzentrum

Frühstücksbüffet mit riesiger Auswahl! Welcome Drink bei Ankunft. Zimmer sehr gut ausgestattet und sauber.

Zimmer nachts z.T. hellhörig.

Sehr nettes Personal.

An der ein oder anderen Stelle des Hotels hätte es sauberer sein können. Ab und an ähnelt es einem All inclusive Resort.
